Ecstatic doesn't begin to describe how I feel right now. Finally I will have a piece to enter into juried shows (that won't cost a small fortune to ship). I'm currently on the lookout for a glaze that will make her look exactly as she does in the photo I took back in February...an unfired look. Quite prefer it actually. However, I'll have to be extremely careful spraying her, since I want every bit of her covered, but not so much that the glaze runs and stick to the shelves. That = baad.
Papillon is alive and well!
When an idea comes, I grab the nearest writing utensil, usually my iPhone, and jot down the description. Then, I sketch a very stylized, borderline stick-figure version to remember the pose. It's not that I don't value a good drawing, but more that I work better from the mind and the more time spent sketching out my visualization, the longer the wait to start on the piece. China is naked except for the bandages on her arm. Her hands pantomime her entrapment. She looks upwards, searching for a way of escape but because she is wounded and lame, requires assistance. It's been a grueling two months of 5 hour work days, 4 hours of German each week, followed by food, going away at this hunk of man flesh til the wee hours of the morning, then some more food, passing out and sleeping until 8 AM, and repeating the whole process again. Yet with the help of Radiolab, the support of my lovely man, and various images of the well-proportioned Marcus Schenkenberg, 'TIS COMPLETE.
For all my loyal fans and stalkers lurking behind their LCD screens of anonymity, here's a video of me spraying glaze onto one of my pieces. |
